THE TORTILLA INCIDENT
Activists, parents, and community supporters of Orange-Glenn Highschool congergated at Coronado Highschool. What began to be a march against racism of the Highschool that allowed boys to throw tortillas at a losing team soon became much more personal for the residents of Corornado. Though the head of basketball coach of Coronado Highschool was fired for the incident, tension began to build for the surrounding community and the group made up of Black Lives Matter activists, parents of the victims of the incident, and its surrounding community supporters. With drum sticks in hand and waiving signs that demanded justice of the Highschool for the incident. The protest became a chant of much deeper tensions in the community. "Power, Power, Power to the people" ringed through the streets as the activists walked through the neighborhood, residents looked seemingly frightened as the chant got nearer to their street. As activists got nearer toward a more populous street such as tenth street and the 75 nearby. Soon was drowned out by honks and verbal abuse towards the activists. The activists knew this and soon began to chant louder and louder with the sound of beating drums. They marched on remaining steadfast toward their goal of being heard. "Power, Power, Power to the people", "Power, Power, Power to the people" and soon this dragged the attention of some people that didn't take too kindly to these activists. As they continued their chants, suddenly in an instant the sound of chants was replaced by faint impacts of knuckles connecting to faces. And suddenly a brawl had appeared. What seemed of a shock to some, others knew it was going to happen. This tension comes amid the sentencing of Derek Chauvin who would be serving 22.5 years in prison for killing George Floyd last year.
